Sharing & Collaboration
Every container in Mottainai—whether it's a grocery list, a project board, or a shared expense ledger—is built for collaboration.
Inviting Contacts
To share a container, you need to invite people. You can do this in two ways:
- Email Invitation: Send a secure invite directly to someone's email address.
- Invite Link: Generate a special link that you can text or message to anyone. Whoever clicks it can join.
When someone joins your container, they become a Member. Since Mottainai is real-time, any change you make is instantly visible to them, and vice versa.
Understanding Roles
Not everyone needs the same level of access. When you share a container, you can assign different permissions to different members:
- Owner: The creator of the container. Owners have full control and are the only ones who can delete the container entirely. An owner cannot leave their own container.
- Admin: Admins can do almost everything an owner can, including managing other members, changing settings, and editing items.
- Member: The standard role. Members can add, edit, and delete items inside the container, but they cannot change the container's core settings or invite new people.
- Guest: A read-only role. Guests can view the container and its items, but they cannot make any changes.
Contact Groups
If you frequently share containers with the same set of people (e.g., your family, or your D&D group), you don't want to invite them one by one every time.
Instead, you can create a Contact Group. Once a group is created, you can invite the entire group to a container at once, and they will all be given access according to the group's default roles.
