Household & Groceries

Managing a household usually means keeping track of what you have, what you need, and when things go bad. In Mottainai, the Storage container is designed specifically for this.

Knowing what you have

A Storage container acts as your digital pantry, fridge, or household supply closet. Instead of just a simple text list, every item in a Storage has:

  • A quantity (e.g., "2 bottles", "500 grams")
  • An optional expiration date

When you add items like milk, eggs, or detergent, Mottainai tracks how much is left. If an item has an expiration date, it will automatically warn you when it's about to go bad, so nothing gets wasted.

The Shopping List

Every Storage container has a built-in shopping list. Here is how the workflow is designed to save you time:

  1. Running out: When you use the last of an item (quantity reaches 0), it isn't deleted. Instead, it moves to the "Archived" section.
  2. Adding to list: From the archive, you can easily tap to add it straight to your shopping list with a desired quantity.
  3. Shopping: When you're at the store, open your shopping list. As you check items off, they automatically go back into your Storage with the new quantity.

You never have to type the same item twice.

Using AI to save time

Typing out a long grocery receipt is tedious. You can use Mottainai's AI features to make this instant:

  • Snap a photo of your receipt and share it with a connected AI assistant via MCP.
  • Or, just paste the text into the fast-add input, and the AI will automatically break it down into nicely formatted items with quantities for you.
